March

This month we are learning all about Spring. In Spring leaves begin to grow on the trees and baby animals are born. Birds begin to build their nests and get ready to lay their eggs. We learned the names of some of the flowers that grow in Spring like daffodils, crocuses, tulips, primroses, bluebells and snowdrops. We went on a Spring walk to the convent garden to see how many signs of Spring we could find.

We also visited the school garden where we were amazed to see how much our broad beans have grown since we planted them in October.

We think they will be ready to pick in Summer.

We had a lot of fun on World Book Day. We all brought our favorite books to school.

Then we designed new covers for our favorite books.

Then as a special treat the girls from Ms. Shields' class came in and read stories to us.

February

All this month we were learning about houses and homes.
We learned about the different types of homes in our area and made pictures showing these homes using sticks and straws.. a little bit like the three little pigs.

We were busy building all month in the construction site role play area.

We also built houses in our groups. Each group made a house using a different material- lego, bricks, sticklebricks, cardboard, marla and clay. We tries to blow the houses down like the big bad wolf from the story The Three Little Pigs but all the houses stayed standing because we built them so well.

We read the story of Hansel and Gretel. The old woman in the story had a beautiful house made from gingerbread and sweets. Seeing as she wasn't going to be using it anymore we decided to put it up for sale. We made for sale posters and wrote a description of the house. It is on the market for a for a very reasonable €11000.

On Pancake Tuesday we learned all about making pancakes. You need milk, flour and eggs.
First you sieve the flour in to the bowl.

Then you add an egg.

Then you add milk and whisk the mixture in the bowl.

Then you pour the mixture into a pan and cook it on both sides. You can flip it if you like.

Finally you put the pancake on the plate and add jam, sugar, chocolate or lemon.

We also tasted some pancakes. They were delicious.

We read the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears and the next day we received a letter from the three bears. They were very angry that Goldilocks had broken into their house and they asked us if we could help them by making a wanted poster for Goldilocks. We drew a picture and write a description of her. We hung the wanted posters up in the school near the door so people would see them.
