January

This month we read "Stickman" and "A Squash and a Squeeze". Julia Donaldson is the author of both these books and Alex Scheffler is the illustrator.

We were very busy from Monday 19th to Friday 23rd with History Week. Everyone in the class was asked to bring in something old so we could make our class into a museum. There were lots of old photographs, toys, clothes, coins and even birth certificates and an old school register. The parents came in to visit our museum on Friday.

We also learned about St. Brigid. Many years ago St. Brigid visited Clondalkin and blessed the water in a well. We visited St. Brigid's well which is still used by local people as a special place to pray.

We have been learning about winter this month and we made snowmen pictures using circles we cut out.

We also painted paintings using different shades of red and blue just like Pablo Picasso's blue and rose paintings.

All month we have been playing in the post office role play corner in the morning. We wrote lots of letters to our friends in the class. We posted them in the post box everyday the post person would deliver them.

On Friday we had a special visit from the girls in Ms. Shield's first and second class. They read us stories and we really enjoyed listening to them.

December

We got ready for Christmas by playing in Santa's workshop in the morning. We pretended to be Santa's elves designing, building and wrapping toys.

We all wrote our letters to Santa and we walked down to the post box to post them.

When we were there we met the postman.

He was collecting the letters from the post box. We were excited because he was bringing our letters with him.

November

In Maths we learned all about 2-D shapes. We found lots of shapes around the classroom. Here are some of the circles we found.
We really enjoyed listening to the shapes song.

We learned a lot about clothes this month. We got a letter from a bear called Honey Potts asking us to test different hats to see which would be the best hat for bears to wear in the rain. We tested a paper hat, a plastic hat a woolly hat and a baseball cap. We decided that the plastic hat was the best so wrote Honey Potts letters to let him know.

We read the story "The Smartest Giant in Town" by Julia Donaldson and used old fabric to make clothes for George the Giant.

We also designed our own outfits using old fabric.

September

As a way of introducing ourselves to our new teacher we drew self portraits.

In Science we learned all about our 5 senses. We talked about the parts of our bodies we use to smell, see, taste, hear and touch. We had fun listening to different sounds, playing spot the difference, feeling different materials, smelling different smells and tasting different flavours.

We enjoyed listening to the 5 senses song.
